The Daily Routine

A typical day in our household starts early. Tara and I are on the early AM workout routine and our kids—ranging from ages 2 to 11—wake up anywhere between 5:45AM- 6AM with boundless energy. Breakfast is a flurry of activity, with cereal bowls clinking and toast popping out of the toaster. Once everyone is fed and dressed, they have a little down time watching some cartoons while I get lunches and medications ready for Maya and then we tackle the school runs.

Managing the household involves meticulous planning. From preparing meals to ensuring the house stays relatively tidy, every task requires coordination. I’ve learned the art of multitasking—folding laundry while helping with homework, cooking dinner while resolving sibling squabbles. Balancing personal time is a constant challenge, but I cherish the quiet moments, even if they’re few and far between. Being a stay at home parent is a thankless job and I have learned to take it one day at a time, one room at a time, and to not sweat the small stuff. I have the most important job. Although there are times I’m sweating…and swearing at the small stuff, I just need to remind myself to take a step back and breathe.
